What is a CSA/Harvest Box?
CSA stands for 'Community Supported Agriculture.’ It is the most direct way a community can support local agriculture. By signing up and paying for a share at the beginning of the season it helps farmers purchase seeds, equipment, tools and other inputs required to start the season. The ‘share’ is in the weekly harvest boxes of the best in-season vegetables.
The CSA relationship goes both ways. We commit to providing you with the healthiest, freshest, most nutritious food we can, and you commit to us by paying up front and letting us choose what vegetables and other farm goodies you will receive each week. By joining a CSA, you will also build a relationship with your farmer, the land, and a deeper relationship with the food you eat.
Frequently asked questions
How often are the boxes delivered?
Generally speaking the primary CSA season is June-October with deliveries in a weekly-ish fashion. Some boxes may be delivered with perhaps 8-11 days in between. This slight fluctuation depends on how the season progresses and when crops come in and out of season. There may also be boxes sporadically outside of the main crop window as we have such a large variety of vegetables throughout the season.
Is a CSA box right for me?
If you are a keen home cook then this box is perfect for you! Just enough of the staples to regimen in your weekly meals and a few new and exciting things to experiment with!
The amount of food may be difficult for a single household member to finish on a weekly basis but a family-household will do well with the quantity.
Prospective CSA members should also consider that joining a CSA not only gets you a subscription to a sweet vegetable box but also develops a deeper connection with where and how your food gets to your table. Say farewell to complicated and carbon extensive food supply chains and hello to local and organic fresh produce.
What do I get in my CSA box?
Every box will include around 4-8 items directly grown and produced on our farm. We pick the best of what is in season and send if off to our CSA members. Generally you’ll find the usual staples such as: tomatoes, carrots, kale, strawberries, asparagus, melons, etc. and some unique and specialty items such as: wasabi radishes, honey berries, and asian pears.
There is also the possibility of some processed food items including but not limited to: jams, chutneys, sorbets, and everyone’s favorite: hazelnut ice cream!
